Short definitions of the terms used across this site, written for marketing and operations leaders at multi-location chains.
- Google Business Profile
- The free listing a business controls on Google Search and Maps. It shows the name, address, hours, photos, reviews, and links for one location.
- Local pack
- The block of nearby business results, shown with a map, that Google displays for searches with local intent.
- Relevance, distance, and prominence
- The three factors Google says local results are mainly based on: how well a profile matches the search, how far the business is from the searcher, and how well known the business is.
- Primary category
- The one category that best describes a business on its profile. Google requires all locations of a business to share it, with exceptions for sub-brands and departments.
- Special hours
- Opening hours set for specific dates, such as public holidays, that differ from a location’s regular hours. Google describes them as meant for brief changes.
- Temporarily closed
- The status Google provides for a location that will be closed for 7 days or more.
- Review response rate
- The share of a location’s reviews that have received a reply from the business.
- Listing accuracy
- How closely the information shown for a location matches reality: hours, address, menu, products, and links.
- Local visibility
- How readily a location appears, and how complete it looks, when nearby customers search for what it offers.
- Reputation management
- The ongoing work of answering reviews, handling complaints, and encouraging satisfied customers to leave reviews.
- Branch scorecard
- A ranked view of every location in a chain, scored on the same measures, showing which lead and which need attention.
- Multi-location chain
- A business that operates several branches under one brand. Bremark serves chains with 5 to 50 branches.
